What is the expo 2025 about?
Rotterdam is preparing a bid to host the World Expo in 2025, an event that tackles global problems through innovation and cultural exchange. World Expo Rotterdam 2025 supports the move towards a new sustainable reality. A reality in which we restore and preserve what we have. The key question we want to ask businesses, governments and communities involved is: how do we create an economy that is not only greener and more resilient, but also fairer? For this reason, the theme of World Expo Rotterdam 2025 is Changing Currents. http://rotterdam2025.nl/en/#/
What is our position?
As a group we decided to tackle humanities perception because people are always involved in these global issues. As a group, we see opportunities to snap people out of the past and future in which desire and aversion are the main culprits of their absence in the moment.
Everyone seeks peace and harmony, because this is what we lack in our lives. From time to time we all experience agitation, irritation, disharmony. And when we suffer from these miseries, we don't keep them to ourselves; we often distribute them to others as well. Unhappiness permeates the atmosphere around someone who is miserable, and those who come in contact with such a person also become affected. Certainly this is not a skillful way to live. (http://www.dhamma.org/en-US/about/art)
Who is the target audience?
Everyone who experience stress, lack of concentration, depression, fears negativity, physical pain and unhappiness.
The concept and how we want to transfer the message
Our goal is to show people that they can control their mind by being more aware of the present moment. The only reality in which us humans can make a difference. In order to control our mind we need to get familiar with it, investigate our mind. We want to show the visitor the difference between controlling and being controlled by putting them in to an objective position and let them experience the mind from a 'distraction' perspective. In this way we want to raise awareness and let them understand that they can achieve something great (move mountains) when they can control their mind.
In a chaotic mind state, our thoughts are often asking a lot of our attention. Thoughts alternate, moment to moment, and we often lose concentration. When we speak of interaction between visitors and the pavilion the visitors also ask for attention. Uncontrolled like ourselves relating to our thoughts, the pavilion has no control over the amount of visitors there are in the pavilion. No queues, they enter and leave when they want and the pavilion reacts on any situation. When we started to get aware of our thoughts, we try to calm them down or suppress them (depending on our mood). When the pavilion no longer wants to be influenced by the visitors. The pavilion also wants to try to calm or suppress them. Given our position within the expo, instead of suppressing the visitors out, it will guide visitors towards an event inside the pavilion where they can learn about mindfulness and other related topics like meditation, tai chi, etc.
